The following screen shot of a
Greater Media
Newspapers' website was taken on July 20, 2004.
It shows an ad for FOX's reality show "The Simple Life" targeted on a story
about NBC's reality show, "Average Joe", and the local high school's most famous alumni, Adam Mesh, who appeared on it.
The interesting thing is large media companies generally don't advertise in community newspapers. In general, it would take any large advertisers too much effort to place ads in the thousands of newspapers it would take to reach the same number of people they can with a single buy on network TV or cable. With the new "contextual" advertising systems available today, advertising buyers can better target their ads and get the large reach they want. The newspaper doesn't have to sell or place it, that's all part of these new systems. Our-Hometown.com provides news conversion, hosting and other services used by this and other community newspapers. Google AdSense provides the "contextual" advertising system. |
