Available menu spots include:

“Main Menu” is your main menu area.

“Secondary Menu” is the space below that.

Left Utility and Right Utility are the 2 menu areas on the top fixed bar (if you have that theme) or utility is the top, unfixed menu.

Flyout / Mobile are your mobile menus on the different themes.

Footer is your footer menu, but you can use the footer widget areas to place multiple styles of menus if you want something more intricate.

Scroll to the bottom of the menu editor window.

In the section titled Theme locations, click the checkbox for the location where you want your menu to appear.

Click Save menu once you’ve made your selection.

If you want to place the menu somewhere other than the defined spots on your site, you will need to add your new menu via the Custom Menu widget in the Appearance Widgets Screen. Some people use this to add multiple menus to the footer widget areas.

Select the menu you want to edit and hit the “select” button next to the drop-down to load it in the screen.

Locate the pane entitled Pages.
Within this pane, select the View All link to bring up a list of all the currently published Pages on your site.

Select the Pages that you want to add by clicking the checkbox next to each Page’s title.

Click the Add to Menu button located at the bottom of this pane to add your selection(s) to the menu that you created in the previous step.

You will mainly be using “pages”, “categories”, and “custom links” for your menus.

Click the Save Menu button once you’ve added all the menu items you want. Your custom menu has now been saved.

Note The Screen Options allow you to choose which items you can use to add to a menu. Certain items, like Tags are hidden by default.

In a formal report, main section headings (Level 1 headings) are the nearest to the left of the page; sub-section headings (Level 2 headings) are indented slightly further to the right; any other subordinate headings (Level 3, 4, etc) within the same section are indented even further to the right.

The WordPress menu editor allows you to create multi-level menus using a simple ‘drag and drop’ interface. Drag menu items up or down to change their order of appearance in the menu. Drag menu items left or right in order to create sub-levels within your menu.

To make one menu item a subordinate of another, you need to position the ‘child’ underneath its ‘parent’ and then drag it slightly to the right.

Position the mouse over the ‘child’ menu item.

Whilst holding the left mouse button, drag it to the right.

Release the mouse button.

Repeat these steps for each sub-menu item.

Click the Save Menu button in the Menu Editor to save your changes.

It is not often thought about, but eventually there may come a time when you will need to change the logo on your website. Maybe you’ve undergone a total re-brand. Maybe you’ve just changed your color scheme. Or, maybe you just like to shake things up with some seasonally-themed artwork in the header.

Whatever the reason, changing your logo is extremely easy! Simply navigate to your homepage and activate the Customize tool. Choose Logo & Image Options from the Customizer menu.

Use the Upload Your Logo option to upload your new logo artwork. Simply click Change Image, and upload your new graphic to the Media Library. If your new graphic has already been uploaded, you can select it from the Media Library tab.

The Upload Your Smaller Logo option is used to upload an alternate logo image, often a condensed version of a larger graphic. Some publications upload a reverse-color logo to be used in darker areas on the website that otherwise would contrast poorly. In the example, we use a white version of our logo that will work better against dark backgrounds.

Click Publish to save your changes! Enjoy your new logo!

Notes & Tips for Logos:

Use a high-resolution image so that it adjusts appropriately for high-resolution devices

Use a transparent background saved as a .PNG or .GIF filetype

Animated .GIF logos are supported, but Flash logos are not

Most customers prefer to hide the “WordPress Author” field from their article pages in favor of the standard Byline that is extracted from the PDF edition. The WordPress Author is the WordPress user who published the article on the website, and will usually display as ops@our-hometown.com (or the e-mail for whatever user published the article) unless they have changed this setting in their profile page.

For full service customers, there is probably never a reason to display the WordPress Author since it will always be ops@our-hometown publishing the articles.

The following CSS will hide the WordPress Author from Article pages:

/*hide OHT bylines in article*/
.single-oht_article .byline__by,
.single-oht_article .byline__author,
.single-oht_article .byline__separator,
.single-oht_article .byline__on {
display: none;
}

To hide the WordPress Author from the homepage, make sure each Article Widget is set to display the “Byline” — but not “Author”.

The post Hiding WordPress Authors on Article Pages first appeared on Our-Hometown.

If you aren’t a fan of the fonts available in the Customizer fonts section, you are more than welcome to pick and implement any of the thousands of fonts available at Google Fonts ( https://fonts.google.com/ )

Once you select your font or fonts, you’ll want to click the gray header at the bottom right of the screen. It will pop up and show you all your selects.

The easiest way to add your font to your site is to click “@IMPORT” – copy the code between the <style> tags and paste it at the VERY TOP of the “custom css” section in the customizer.

Each font will give you instructions on how to apply that specific font appropriately in the “Specify in CSS” section below the import code.
