With our SEO For Newspapers LIVE webinar set to take place Thursday at 12PM eastern time, we thought we’d stick with the Search Engine Optimization theme this week and invite our customers to update their Site Title and Site Description, which are two important fields used to help your website perform better on Google and other search engines.
Most customers on our WordPress platform are already utilizing the Title and Description fields via the All in One SEO plugin, but some of our long-time customers who migrated to WordPress from our old Drupal platform may be lacking this information.
Whatever the case, you may want to take the opportunity to enter or update this information now. We’ve created a brief form at the bottom of this page that you can fill out with your website’s Title and Description, along with some other details that can help improve performance.
Before doing so, let’s review the expectation for each field below.
Your website’s Title is how the website’s name will be listed in search results, and is also how the website’s tab is titled in your web browser. The title should be limited to less than 60 characters, and in most cases should include only the name of your publication.
Example: “News for Bend, OR | The Bulletin”, or alternatively, “Local News for Bend, OR | The Bulletin”
Your website’s Description is a brief summary of the website and the services it provides. For newspapers, this should include the name of the publication and any towns, counties and regions that are covered. Your description should be limited to 160 characters.
For the best results, it is important that your website’s information is consistent across any online or social media profiles associated with your newspaper. Your Facebook page, Twitter profile and Google Business Profile should all use the same Title (or name) and Description that your website uses.
It is also important to make sure that your contact information is up to date and consistent across all of your online profiles.
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Otherwise, fill out the form below and we’ll make sure your website is updated with the Site Title and Site Description you enter so that you can start reaping the benefits of improved SEO.
