Using the Drag & Drop Composer with Automated Newsletters

Last week, we introduced you to our Newsletter Plugin’s brand new Drag & Drop Composer and, more specifically, the CPT Block that is used to display Articles or Events from your website. This week, we’d like to focus on using the Drag & Drop Composer with an Automated Newsletter.

Automated Newsletters are useful because you can design your newsletter once and have it automatically send out at a pre-determined time and day each week (or bi-weekly, or monthly, depending on the schedule you set up). The key advantage is that the Automated Newsletter will automatically fill itself with new content that has been posted since the previous week’s newsletter went out, meaning your staff doesn’t have to manually piece together the newsletter each week.

With the new CPT Block available in the Drag & Drop Composer, you can easily create different sections like “Local News” or “Local Sports” and pull in articles from those categories by creating a CPT Block for each of them.

One thing you’ll want to keep in mind when using an Automated Newsletter is that it will only show NEW content. This means if you set up a CPT Block for a “Arts & Entertainment” category, but then the following week you have not posted any new Arts & Entertainment content, this section will show up empty. It is best to only include sections that are used each and every week to avoid any strange conflicts in the newsletter.

Another excellent way to use the Automated Newsletter, as demonstrated in the video above, is to send a weekly Events newsletter to your subscribers. You can use the same CPT Block to pull in Events instead of Articles. Any new events that are added throughout the week will be included in the next Newsletter.
